What is Theme?
To theme is to give a particular setting or ambience, in this case via paint. This is called faux finishes in some places. Consider how all visual elements work together to tell a story. What is the history of the setting, these elements? Depending upon the substrate, theme may begin with replicating a material such as wood, and then telling the history of that piece of wood. What conditions has it experienced? For how long?
